Get to Know Your Group

The advanced version of this is actually not mine.  I stole it from a colleague in Cambodia.  But I've used it successfully many times in my own classes on the first day.
I posted it on this blog a few years ago as an addendum to my free conversation activity, but I'm going to re-post it here because I've created my own version of it.  (I wanted to use this same activity, but with low level students.



Meet Your Group!

What do you have in common with other people in your group?  What are some similarities and differences between people in your group?

You and your group are going to spend 15 minutes discussing the questions below with each other   Try to talk a lot about each question and have a good discussion with your group. Make notes about some of the information you discuss with your group.  Afterwards, each group will share with the class some of the similarities and differences about people in the group.


Discussion questions:

  1. What is your favorite subject at school?  Why?

  1. What is your least favorite subject at school? Why?

  1. Tell your group about your family.  Who lives in your home?  Do you have any pets?

  1. When is your birthday?

  1. What would you like to be doing in 5 years?

  1. What country would you like to visit?  Why?

  1. What films have you seen recently?  Were they good or bad?  Why?

  1. If you could meet any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

  1. Would you rather be a great musician, athlete, scientist, artist, politician, or writer?  Why?

  1. What is the scariest thing that ever happened to you?

  1. What is your favorite food?

  1. What is the scariest thing that ever happened to you?

  1. What do you like to do in your free time?

  1. What time do you wake up every day?  What time do you go to bed every day?

  1. What is your favorite color?

  1. What sports do you like
  2. What are you going to do today after school finishes?

  1. If you still have time, ask any question you want to your group.  Try to find out as much information about the people in your group as you can.
